![]() ![]() The rich, faithfully vintage color palette immediately captures attention on the wrist, from the deep radially brushed ocean blue of the main dial surface to the pale seafoam green, Kelly green, and signal orange that adorns the subdials and scales. Naturally, the TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper’s dial is its real visual centerpiece. Although the more nautical connotations of the Skipper design may reframe water resistance expectations somewhat, the new Carrera Skipper carries over the previous “Glassbox” Carrera’s sapphire display caseback and middle-of-the-road 100-meter depth rating. In terms of overall stance, it’s more or less what you’d expect from a 39mm Carrera, but the way the crystal and the outwardly sloping seconds scale beneath catches the light, it becomes far more of an attention-seeker than the similarly sized, vintage-style Carreras the brand offers under the heritage Heuer nameplate. ![]() The sharp, inwardly beveled lugs, tall pump pushers, and cleanly brushed case sides are all familiar elements, but the bubble of the truly bezel-free, high-dome sapphire crystal makes it feel like a Carrera by way of Captain Kirk. The 39mm-wide stainless steel case of the TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper is functionally identical to the rest of the “Glassbox” family and mimics the uniquely retrofuturistic wearing experience of those models, albeit with a slightly larger feel (more on that later). ![]()
